Join LearningMate hosts Jackie Ricords and Steve Ernst, along with a panel of thought leaders from National Education Partners, University of Phoenix, and Harrisburg University Online, as we discuss research and best online course development practices.
Exploring future-grounded design as a way to move toward a design-based research approach and continuous innovation through a suite-of-tools approach for problem-solving. Best practices and processes for transitioning from face-to-face to online quickly will be explored with the goal of swapping “for now” approaches to sustainable and scalable efforts.
As we accept that online learning is not the same as face-to-face, we open up the possibilities to maximize online learning’s strengths by exploring the following questions: What is the reality of where we are now and our audience’s needs? How can we shift to anticipate what will work with the changing expectations of our learners? How can we use a research-based approach to work smarter together? This conversation will close with discussing early effects on the student body, what is working, and what isn’t. You will leave with practical strategies to improve instruction at your institution through centralized planning, engagement, and developing a comfort level with the unknown, including creative, adaptable, and innovative approaches.
We also plan to discuss both the inherent excitement and anxiety involved in shifting our learning design approaches. We will explore how learning to lean into the excitement while accepting and acknowledging the anxiety of embracing the different ways to design learning provides opportunities to change and grow.
By planning with a future-grounded design mindset, we design learning that allows for all options – in-person, hybrid, online, facilitated, or unfacilitated – to expand exponentially.
